Labour goes on full strike in Abuja

   T he Federal Court of Appeal, Abuja the gate was shot and staff were barred from entering for routine activities. The busy streets of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have gone dry. This is totally compliant with the indefinite strike action embarked on by the Labour unions.

Two crane operators killed in Ukwa East Local Government in Abia State.

It is said to be a sorrowful moment in Ukwa West Local Government in Abia State. Ocheze Ogbonna, a female crane operator at Inner Galaxy Steel Company, Umuahala-Obuzor in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has been reputedly killed by a Chinese national who wanted to be in a relationship with her. According to the information gathered it was said the Chinese manager pushed her down for not accepting him to have a love advances with her.  However we gathered that their was another incident which happened in the same premises where Ocheze Ogbonna,was alleged killed and the young man named Promise kelechi was stabbed at the cheat but their was no information about the killing. Breaking News : Asuu Issues Strike Notice

The  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government two weeks to reconstitute the governing councils of the federal universities and also meet its other demands contained in the agreements they signed.   ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodoke, at a press conference, in Abuja, yesterday, said the decision was taken at the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which ended in Abuja on Monday. Audit shows Ikpeazu left net credit balance of N3.49bn for Otti –Ex-commissioner

  Chief  John Okiyi-Kalu, former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, has revealed that the Abia Forensic Audit report done by Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG), a multinational professional services network that provides audit, advisory, tax and legal services confirms that former governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, left a net credit balance of N3.48 billion for Governor Alex Otti. Okiyi-Kalu added that against all the negative agenda of the current government against Ikpeazu, he even left more for Otti stressing that cash in the bank was different from other near-cash assets, such as a 3.5 percent share in Aba Independent Power Project (IPP) Geometric which now valued at N80 billion, among others.   Nollywood films, Over the Bridge, This Is Lagos, and Dynamite will be screened at the New York African Film Festival (NYAFF) which commenced on Wednesday, May 8 and will run till May 14. The festival showcases   African and diaspora films in the United States. Over the years, films honoring the many voices and tales of Africa and its era have been made available to viewers through NYAFF, which was founded in 1993. With the theme “Convergence of Time,” the festival's 31st edition this year examines the meeting point of historical and modern roles performed by those who represent Africa and its diaspora in art. Catholic Bishop wants youth to make church activities go viral on social media

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, Most Rev. Michael Ukpong, has charged the Catholic media practitioners to help disseminate the Church doctrines among the youths. He described the knowledge deficit among the Catholic faithful as worrisome, saying that the phenomenon was more prevalent among the younger generation. The cleric said that the prevailing delinquencies and societal ills could be attributed to ignorance and the lack of knowledge. Ukpong further appealed to the CAMPAN members to enhance their activities, in order that the church would feel their impact more. He advised the National President of the group,  Chimdi Oluoha , to ensure that he excelled in his assignment in order to bring honour rather than shame to his home diocese. He promised that the church would do the best within the available resources to support him to succeed.

  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee have enjoined traders in Cross River State.  The CBN working in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee, made the appeal yesterday, at Watt Market, Calabar, when they staged an awareness and sensitisation campaign on cashless policy and the use of e-Naira by traders for business transactions. Addressing the traders, Assistant Director, Payment System Management, CBN, Mr. Chika Ugwueze, said the sensitisation exercise was aimed at providing adequate information to traders, and members of the public about the cashless policy as an alternative to the use of cash in the country.   Account to Ugwueze  he stated that the CBN introduced the eNaira as an alternative to cash, explained the benefits of the digital payment platform to the traders. It is going to be the NIC,” ASUU’s lawyer, Femi Falana.The President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, also confirmed the development in a chat with our correspondent on Thursday morning. “He (Falana) is our lawyer. So, that is correct,” Osodeke said when asked to confirm the development. The Federal Government on Tuesday registered two factional academic unions – the Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA).  Abuja contractors  on -Makurdi Road  were charged by  Lawmakers The House of Representatives has charged the contractor handling the $542 million Abuja-Makurdi road project to complete it in record  time. Th House Committee on Works expressed displeasure at the slow pace of work on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway and the dualization of the Keffi-Lafia-Makurdi road project. The 454 kilometre Abuja-Makurdi road project was awarded in 2017 but work did not start until 2019 as a result of its engineering, procurement and construction components. From the Kugbo end of the Abuja-Keffi 5.4 km road expansion project, members of the Committee kicked off their oversight function.
