Tragedy in Ondo: Poly Student Shot Dead by Cultists Three Weeks After Mother’s Death
A student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo, Ondo State, has been k!lled by suspected cultists in what appears to be a violent reprisal attack.
The victim, identified simply as Peter, was shot d3ad at his residence in the Opomulero area of Owo on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Sources disclosed that the assailants stormed the area in the evening while searching for suspected rival cult members. They reportedly located Peter at his apartment, pretended to be visitors, called him outside and shot him at close range.
“We received a call yesterday evening that Peter was shot by some guys believed to be cultists. We were told that they pretended to be visitors, called him out of his apartment and shot him at point-blank range. He struggled to stay alive before he was rushed to the hospital,” a source said.
Peter was later confirmed d3ad at the hospital.
Another source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the deceased, also known as “Don P,” had lost his mother just three weeks ago, compounding the tragedy surrounding his d3ath.
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, linked the k!lling to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups on campus. In a statement posted on Monday, the platform said the violence began last Thursday during a birthday celebration by suspected Eiye cult members within the polytechnic.
According to the platform, an altercation broke out after an alleged Eiye leader ordered the assault of a female student, an action that reportedly angered members of the Buccaneers cult present at the scene.
“The incident began last Thursday inside RUGIPO when Eiye cultists were celebrating a member’s birthday. During the gathering, the Eiye leader reportedly ordered that a female student be slapped after she refused to respond to his call,” the statement read.
Naija Confra added that tensions escalated after a Buccaneers member was later attacked and had his phone destroyed. This allegedly led to a series of retaliatory attacks between the two groups, culminating in the fatal shooting of Peter.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident. Residents have expressed fear over the rising cult-related violence in the area, calling on security agencies to act swiftly to restore calm....
