Nigeria Mourns as Veteran Broadcaster and Elder Statesman, Christopher Kolade, Dies
Veteran broadcaster and elder statesman Dr Christopher Kolade has died at the age of 92.
The family announced his death in a statement on Thursday.
The statement said the late broadcaster died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Born on December 28, 1932, Kolade had a distinguished career as a diplomat, academic, advocate for integrity and corporate governance, among other things.
Dr. Christopher Kolade — fondly remembered as the gentleman of the airwaves — was a man of integrity, discipline, and excellence.
He began his remarkable career in broadcasting, serving as the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) before taking on several leadership roles in both public and private sectors.
Dr. Kolade also served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, where he represented the country with distinction. Beyond diplomacy, he was a corporate leader, educator, and moral voice in national affairs — known for his honesty, humility, and commitment to good governance.
Following the announcement of his death, condolences have continued to pour in from leaders, professionals, and citizens alike, describing him as a mentor to many and a true patriot who lived a life of service.
