Stakeholders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abia State have convened a meeting in Aba to address critical issues affecting the party, notably the official record from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which lists only one registered member for the party in the state.
The meeting, held at the Abia Hotels and convened by the Aba North Zonal Leader of the party, Prince Joseph Ikonne, brought together party chieftains from 14 of the state's 17 local government areas.
The central issue discussed was the glaring discrepancy between the party's grassroots presence and its INEC registration status.
Prince Ikonne, in his address, stated that the gathering was necessary to formally notify the State Chairman of the party, Comrade Eze Nwoko, of the widespread presence of active members across the state and to demand their immediate inclusion in the party's national register and however confirmed that leaders from all the local government areas in the state would be duly registered alongside their members.
However, they were reportedly satisfied with the outcome of the deliberations and the commitment shown by the leadership to rectify the situation.
In his response, the State Chairman of the party, Comrade Eze Nwoko, agreed to collaborate with the stakeholders, pledging to work diligently to ensure the inclusion of all genuine party members in the authentic party register.
