 Abia Governor Alex Otti Reshuffles Cabinet, Swears In New Commissioners and Adviser.



Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has sworn in two new commissioners and a Special Adviser, with a charge to bring fresh energy, commitment, and integrity to the service of the State.

The commissioners are: Dr. Mrs. Salome Obiukwu, who now assumes office as Commissioner for Trade and Commerce; Architect Chiemela Uzoije as Commissioner for Housing; and Prince Christian Enweremadu as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture.


Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia on Tuesday, Otti who announced cabinet adjustments, said that the former Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Kingsley Nwokocha, will now serve as the Commissioner for Labour and Productivity.


Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Monday swore in two new Commissioners and a Special Adviser, while announcing a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at improving governance efficiency.

Governor Otti revealed that the Ministry of Lands and Housing has been split into two separate portfolios. He announced Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije as the new Commissioner for Lands. The Governor explained that the restructuring and fresh appointments were part of his administration’s strategy to periodically inject new ideas to enrich performance and broaden its scope.

Congratulating the appointees for successfully scaling through the nomination and screening process, Governor Otti reminded them of his government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption, warning that anyone found wanting will face immediate sanctions.

He emphasised the need for the new officials to quickly settle into their roles, stressing that “there is practically no time for honeymoon. We expect that you will quickly invite and welcome support from every available channel so that you can hit the ground running.


Otti used the occasion to highlight some of his administration’s achievements in the last 28 months, including improvements in road infrastructure, security, education, and healthcare


He urged all appointees to work as a team to deliver quality leadership and measurable improvements in the lives of Abians.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the newly sworn-in appointees, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Obiukwu expressed gratitude to the Governor for finding them to serve the State.
